In this article we will focus on the varieties of engines within the dental aspiration system, to be able to choose between one or the other knowing what are the main advantages and disadvantages.

Types of dental suction systems: Wet and Dry

Since Dr Dürr manufactured the world’s first dental aspiration system in 1961, technological advances, the importance of ergonomics and other values such as ecology have been very present in the dental practice. All this has led to two types of dental aspiration systems: the wet one and the dry one.

Wet dental suction system: Advantages

Among the main advantages of a wet suction system we find that it is a much more modern system in which maintenance is easier than in dry suction. This is also due to the fact that its function is focused solely on the aspiration system, which makes it the preferred one in the majority of new dental clinics. In addition, it offers a good performance, of 300 l / min for each vacuum pressure cannula.

Wet dental suction system: Disadvantages

As with all products, the wet dental suction system also has certain disadvantages. The first is that the suction motor must be at the same level as the dental equipment and a system of drains is also required in the machine room.

Dry dental suction system: Advantages

On the other hand, when we speak of a dry dental aspiration system we refer to certain interesting advantages such as its cost, which is cheaper than the wet one. In addition, it also offers a good performance of 300 l / min for each vacuum pressure cannula and does not require a drainage system in the machine room. Another difference with the wet one is that the suction motor can be located at a higher level than the dental equipment, something that was not possible in the previous one.

Dry suction system: Disadvantages

To get a complete idea of the two types of aspiration, we also need to know what are the main disadvantages of dry aspiration. Well, one of the main drawbacks is that it is necessary to perform more maintenance of this system than with the wet one, and we also need a drain in each dental unit.

Now that we have put the main advantages and disadvantages on the table, you can already make a real estimate of which system your clinic requires.
